GREECE | Kythnos Island
50-hr Yin Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) | 18/7/2020 - 25/7/2020
Vinyasa and Yin Yoga Retreat | 18/7/2020 - 25/7/2020
Alpha Yoga School organizes this year's 50-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training and a yoga retreat in Greece, Europe, in the beautiful island of Kythnos. Just a short boat ride from Athens, it is surprising how Kythnos island managed to evade mass tourism. Kythnos is truly Cyclades' hidden gem. Kythnos Island is a place where time passes a bit slower and it is known for its magnificent 100 km coastline of sand and pebble bays.
Kythnos remains a traditional Cycladic island that has retained its color, authentic Aegean character and calm pace of everyday life. It has over 90 beaches, the most famous being Kolona beach, where a narrow strip of sand is surrounded by the sea, creating two separate and independent beaches. We usually visit this beach on the last day of the course. Visit the picturesque villages of the island, get lost in the maze of its white and blue streets and walk-through alleys. Dryopida is a quiet village with tavernas (locally-owned restaurants) and a few shops. Hora is the capital of the island with white-washed houses and secluded cafeterias.
There are many thermal springs in Greece but the only ones in the Cyclades can be found in Kythnos. They are located in the village of Loutra and their source reaches 52C. The water is rich in salts, sulfur, and iron making it ideal for treating skin issues and gynecological problems. While their use must have begun in Roman or Byzantine times, the locals showed little interest in the springs and surrounded them with beliefs about fairies and devils.
Practicing Vinyasa Yoga and Yin Yoga in an open studio with a view over the Aegean Sea is one of the most beautiful experiences. Watch the magical sunset in the afternoon from the yoga studio. Delight yourself with a massage, swim in the infinity pool, sunbathe on the near-by beach or visit the thermal waters with their therapeutic properties. Feel energized, nourished and centered.
For this 50-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training and retreat, Alpha Yoga School chose the K4 Kythnos Retreat Center that is located right by the beach. A sustainable complex of four independent villas, each one boasts a unique Cycladic style and a terrace overlooking the infinity pool and the Aegean Sea. The whole place feels like it’s been suspended 100 feet above the crashing waves.
Each villa is 100 square meters and has an open-space living room, kitchen, three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. All the bedrooms are upstairs, while the kitchen and living room are downstairs. One of the bedrooms has a double bed, one bedroom has two single beds and the third bedroom has bunk beds ( two beds of 160cm width, on the bottom and one on the top). Each villa can host a maximum of six people.
Local fresh produce including royal figs, wild thyme honey, juicy oranges, and lemons will energize and nourish your body and soul. We fully support the Mediterranean diet not only because we are in Greece, but it has long been known as one of the healthiest diets. Brunch is served after the morning class and it usually includes Greek yogurt, wild-thyme honey, eggs, cheese, fresh fruits, bread, home-made marmalade, juice, coffee and more. Snacks such as homemade energy bars, walnut bars, carrot cake, and tea will energize you in the afternoon. Dinner is a variety of fresh vegetarian options prepared with love by our in-house chef.
HOW TO GET THERE
We suggest that you arrive in Athens one day before the course/retreat, and leave one day after the course/retreat. Use the opportunity to visit the Acropolis and the old town of Plaka when you are in Athens.
There are two ports in Athens that connect you with Kythnos island. Piraeus and Lavrio port. The ferry ride from Piraeus is about 3,5 hours and the ferry ride from Lavrio port is 1,40 minutes. Both ports well are connected to the airport.
From Athens (ATH) airport, there is also a regular bus (X95) that can connect you to the city center. The bus is available 24 hours, 7 days a week and it runs every 30-45 minutes.
